Welcome to ASAPA!

The Association of South Asian Political Activists is a student organization at the University of California, Berkeley.  ASAPA provides a means by which students can discuss issues facing the South Asian community in the United States and abroad.  ASAPA acts as a forum to initiate activity concerning social, political, and economic issues facing the South Asian community.

The issues that ASAPA addresses are meant to reflect the interests of its members. ASAPA welcomes a wide spectrum of political views, while attempting to balance competing political interests.

Peace Rally

Date and Place: Thursday, October 25th, 5-7pm on Upper Sproul Plaza, UC Berkeley

ASAPA is helping to organize a major rally on the UC Berkeley campus to demonstrate and promote inter-religious unity. Against the old messages of fear, mistrust and fragmentation, we invite all to come and speak for peace with the power of a united voice.

Upcoming Events

APAC Teach-in

October 8-12, 6-7pm @ 246 Dwinelle. The Asian Pacific American Colation will be holding teach-ins for its "Count Me In!" campaign to further disaggregate the Asian American and Pacific Islander admissions data on the UC Application.

Sudha Murthy Philanthropy Lecture

October 15, 4-5:30pm @ 390 Hearst Mining. The Center for South Asia Studies is hosting a public lecture entitled, "A Philanthropist Speaks: Lessons from Life," featuring Sudha Murthy, author and chairperson of Infosys Foundation.

Darren Zook on Nonviolence Theory

October 16, 5-7pm @ 182 Dwinelle. Professor Darren Zook will speak at the ASAPA De-Cal on nonviolence theory from Gandhi to Ambedkar.

ASAPA General Meeting

October 17, 7pm @ 3 Evans. ASAPA working groups will meet and discuss plans for South Asian Awareness Week, and more.

ASAPA Retreat

October 20, 11-6pm @ common room of Rochdale Apartments. ASAPA will be holding a half-day retreat including teach-ins, trainings, and handbill/banner-making in preparation for upcoming campaigns.

Ongoing Events

ASAPA DECAL @ 182 Dwinelle

Come and learn about issues affecting the global South Asian community. The decal will provide a variety of discussions and lectures from a various educated guess speakers on social/political issues in the South Asian community at home and abroad.
